Ms. Portia York joined The John Crosland School in 2007 and enjoys connecting with parents and community partners who share the goal of providing a quality education for students with diagnosed learning differences. Ms. York is grateful to be able to assist families who have a child with a learning difference and to see the growth and development of students who attend The John Crosland School. Ms. York earned a BA in Sociology from Clark University, an MBA from Cambridge College, and is currently pursuing a PhD in Curriculum and Instruction at University of North Carolina, Charlotte. She brings many years of knowledge and experience in marketing, education, and non-profit management to The John Crosland School. Ms. York manages Admissions, Financial Aid, and the Extended Day Program. At Crosland she has implemented many new programs within the Admissions Department such as the Girls Group, Speaker Series, Young Men of Color Affinity Group, Crochet Club, and the New Family Ambassador Program. These programs aid in student recruitment, retention and overall growth of the school. Ms. York also helps coach the cross-country team each year.
Ms. York enjoys pursing her passions in both her professional and personal life. She serves as President on the Board of Directors at Carolina Breast Friends. She is also a member of Queen City Metro Chapter of 100 Black Women. Ms. York obtained a Master of Advanced Crochet Stitches and Techniques certification and incorporates her love of art into her world by teaching classes, exhibiting art, and speaking to groups about fiber art. Her son Jordan is a student-athlete at Campbell University, where he is studying Homeland Security and enjoying wrestling.
