Embracing Wonder: A Spectacular Solar Eclipse Experience Unveils the Hornets Flex Lab
As the sun dipped behind the moon, casting a shadow over the earth, students and faculty at The John Crosland School experienced a celestial event like never before. It was a day of excitement, learning, and community as we celebrated the solar eclipse in style with the grand opening of our Hornets Flex Lab and a special visit from Leaky Black and The Charlotte Hornets Foundation.
The anticipation had been building for weeks, with Ms. Dutcher and her Upper School STEAM class leading the charge in preparing for the event. From designing eclipse viewing glasses to organizing educational activities, they left no stone unturned in ensuring that everyone had a memorable experience.
Throughout the afternoon, under the guidance of Ms. Dutcher and her dedicated students, a myriad of engaging activities unfolded. From immersive solar eclipse videos to hands-on crafts, students delved into the science behind the celestial phenomenon, all while gaining a deeper appreciation for the importance of preserving our planet’s natural resources.
In conjunction with our solar eclipse festivities, we were thrilled to announce a significant milestone in our educational journey. The Charlotte Hornets Foundation bestowed its annual $100,000 Education Grant to us! This generous grant enabled the establishment of a cutting-edge STEAM Lab, equipped with computers, 3D printers, flexible seating, and more, fostering an environment where students of all abilities can unleash their creativity and passion for learning.
To celebrate this momentous occasion, Hornets forward Leaky Black and representatives from the Charlotte Hornets Foundation graced the school with their presence, partaking in a class held within the newly minted STEAM Lab. The significance of this grant reverberated throughout the school community, as it epitomized our shared commitment to empowering every student to realize their full potential.
But the adventure doesn’t stop here. With the grand opening of the Hornets Flex Lab, we are just getting started. From lego robotics to coding, there are plenty of exciting opportunities on the horizon. And with more upgrades in store for the Flex Lab and the Upper School Science room, the future has never looked brighter.
Thank you to everyone who helped make this event possible, and here’s to many more adventures to come.
