During the 20th century, medical science proved learning differences is a neurological disorder that affects the brain’s ability to retrieve, process, and store information. Crosland exists to help institute a paradigm shift in the way society engages with young people with learning differences or attention disorders by equipping its students to learn in ways that work for them.
The John Crosland School plays a vital role not only in the educational community but in our community as a whole by enabling students to become responsible and contributing members of society. We have served students from eight counties and 21 cities across the Carolinas.
A vigorous curriculum is important, but Crosland recognizes the needs of the whole child. That is why, in addition to a superior academic program, we offer physical education, art, music, and social skills on a daily basis. We also offer OT/Speech therapy on site and provide enrichment activities after school, along with athletic programs that include cross country, basketball, and flag football.
The John Crosland School’s students are problem solvers and high-level creative thinkers who add value to our community. Teachers and parents meet during the year at the Educational Management Plan (EMP) meetings to create goals for the student. They design a highly individualized EMP targeting ways the learning difference appears in the child. From there, it is an ongoing process of identifying the need and working creatively to help the student succeed.
Charitable gifts to The John Crosland School are not only of tremendous benefit to our students, but they have a positive tax impact for the donor as well. All gifts to The John Crosland School are tax deductible. Our 501(c) 3 tax ID is 56-1211583. We have our 990 and 1023 available on request.
The Annual Fund, Crosland’s annual giving program, is the easiest and most impactful way to support The John Crosland School. Funds raised during this annual appeal provide ongoing support to the operating budget, allowing us to offer competitive salaries to faculty, sustain and update existing curricula, offer financial assistance, and other operations.
The majority of our students come to Crosland from area public schools and many return to those schools after 2-3 years due to financial hardship, even though they would benefit from continuing at Crosland. Often, the scholarship award does not cover the financial need. Your gift to the Scholarship Fund will help those students that want and need to be at the Crosland School.
If you are not sure where you want to designate your donation or have a different idea of where you would like it to go, you can choose to donate to “where the need is”. Your donation helps to bridge the gap of tuition that doesn’t cover the cost of education.
Capital gifts are designated for a specific use or initiative, such as the construction or renovation of a facility. These gifts are often given in conjunction with a capital campaign. Each capital gift is unique, and a gift may qualify for naming rights when the gift meets the school’s criteria.
The purpose of the JCS Parent Council is to foster and maintain a strong sense of community among the students and families and to support the teachers and the school. Parent Council raises funds to support school projects and activities such as the Book Fair, parent socials, student Fun Run, staff birthday celebrations, and Teacher & Staff appreciation week.
A donation to The John Crosland School is a unique way to honor an extraordinary person who has touched your life or was a precious loved one. What better way than with a donation in their honor and at the same time make a difference to Crosland students!
Each year, with the help of community members like you, we hold a fundraising event to help us raise needed funds for the school. Every dollar raised will be used to benefit every student including to help pay for teacher training, improved technology curriculum, to purchase classroom supplies, and to provide tuition assistance.
An outright cash gift or payments on a multi-year pledge can be made by check or by donating online with a credit card. This provides the donor with an income tax charitable deduction in the year each gift or pledge installment is paid.
A gift of stock may provide a significant tax advantage for a donor. Stocks that have greatly increased in value are excellent gifts to make to The John Crosland School. The School realizes the full market value of the stock, and the donor receives a charitable deduction for the full fair market value of the stock. Please be sure to discuss the potential benefits with your tax advisor before making the gift. To complete the transaction please contact us for necessary information.
