A Thank You To Parent Council

A Thank You To Parent Council

For the JCS Parent Council, supporting our school is about so much more than just showing up at events or pitching in for fundraisers. It’s about building a vibrant, connected community of parents, students, and teachers who look out for each other.

Parent involvement creates a network of friendships and shared experiences that makes each family’s journey at John Crosland School feel special and personal. “When you’re part of the Parent Council, you’re not just helping Crosland; you’re becoming part of a family that truly understands the unique experiences we all share,” says a current JCS parent.

Our current Parent Council president, Allison Sable, makes it clear that all families are welcome to be involved, and that especially for new families, joining this group can ease their transition to our school and help them find their place within our community.

The dedication of parents enhances the learning experience at JCS in countless ways. The school thrives not only on donations from the wider community and corporations but also on the support from families. Every year, contributions to the Annual Fund help to provide crucial resources—updated technology, arts programs, extracurriculars, and so much more. As another parent council member puts it, “Our families’ generosity directly impacts the quality of education for our students. It’s something truly powerful.”

Parents don’t have to be able to donate to make a difference. Volunteering time is just as valuable, whether it’s attending council meetings, reading in classrooms, or organizing beloved school events like the Book Fair. “There’s something for everyone to do, and it’s amazing to see how each parent’s unique talents bring joy and support to our school,” the parent continued.

The Parent Council also goes above and beyond to show appreciation for our dedicated teachers and staff. The staff Winter Celebration in December and the Valentine’s Day Soup Luncheon in February are beloved traditions. These small acts of gratitude mean so much to the teachers who work so hard to give their best to our students. From Teacher Appreciation Week to remembering staff birthdays, the council’s thoughtfulness shines through all year long.

The lasting impact of active parent involvement fosters relationships that extend beyond graduation. Parents often become ambassadors for the school, helping to bring in new families and share the unique value the school offers. This network of engaged parents is instrumental in promoting the school’s mission, values, and vision in the wider community.

At John Crosland School, the partnership between our school and parents is built on shared values and a mutual commitment to providing an enriching, supportive environment for our students. When parents actively support John Crosland School, they become part of a larger, impactful mission—one that shapes not just the students, but builds a community that parents can rely on for knowledge and support as they navigate the educational journey for their children.

Are you ready to become part of our Parent Council? Meetings take place at JCS, typically on a Wednesday morning each month at 8:00 a.m., but parents can also connect via phone or zoom, which makes it easy for parents who work or have other small children to be involved. Everyone is welcome and encouraged to join!
